# What Schedule Changes Affect

> Choose the right level of change: defaults, shared availability, a scheduler, one session, or one athlete.

Before changing a schedule, identify the scope: **new schedulers**, **a shared setup item**, **future booking options**, **one calendar session**, or **one athlete's booking**.

| Change | What it affects | What to check separately |
| - | - | - |
| [Scheduler defaults](/scheduling/setup-defaults) | Starting settings for schedulers created afterward | Existing schedulers keep their settings |
| [Shared availability](/scheduling/how-availability-works) | Available times on schedulers using that template | Existing bookings do not move or cancel automatically |
| [Blackout dates](/scheduling/setting-black-out-dates) | New availability during the blocked interval | Handle any bookings already on those dates |
| [Seasonal start/end dates](/scheduling/seasonal-schedule-transition) | When each availability block offers times | Check both sides of the transition and existing bookings |
| Scheduler pricing, duration choices, or booking rules | What new bookings can select or must satisfy | Do not assume existing bookings were repriced, moved, or refunded |
| Scheduler's default location | The service's default venue | Review already-booked dates and any per-date venue overrides |
| [Move Session](/scheduling/editing-rescheduling-bookings#move-an-entire-session) | The selected occurrence and all its participant bookings | Other dates stay where they are; review conflicts and notifications |
| [Edit Duration or Change Location](/scheduling/editing-rescheduling-bookings) on the calendar | The selected occurrence | Review all affected participants and notification choices |
| Edit one athlete's booking | That athlete's reservation | The other participants in a group session |
| [Skip a recurring occurrence](/scheduling/recurring-bookings#skipping-one-occurrence) | One date in the athlete's recurring pattern | Other dates, credits, and payment records |
| [Cancel Session](/scheduling/canceling-bookings#cancel-an-entire-session-from-the-calendar) | Everyone booked into that occurrence | Future availability and any separate card refunds |
| Remove a scheduler from a portal section | Where the scheduler is displayed | Direct links, active status, and existing bookings |
| [Deactivate or archive](/scheduling/organizing-schedulers#archiving-a-scheduler) | Availability for new customer bookings | Existing future sessions and credit products that use the scheduler |

## Example: close for a holiday

1. Block the holiday on the appropriate availability template.
2. Review every scheduler using that template.
3. Find bookings already made for that day.
4. Move or cancel the affected sessions and review credit/payment handling.
5. Choose the notification channels and verify the calendar afterward.

The blackout closes future booking options. It does not do the rest of the steps for you.

## Example: change one class venue

Open the class on the calendar, edit **Location**, and review **Notify participants** before saving. Verify the location on that date afterward.

Use the scheduler's default location when changing the service's normal venue, and review any existing bookings or date-specific overrides separately. See [Locations](/scheduling/setup-locations).

## Verify a change

Check both the customer booking page and the affected calendar records. Confirm the dates, participants, coach, resource, location, and payment or credit history that matter to the change.

A successful save confirms the change. It does not establish that every participant received a message; review the selected notification channels and any [automations](/tools/automations/what-are-automations).
