Squarespace Permission Sharing

How to share your domain when hosting it on Squarespace.

Managing Domain Permissions in Squarespace

Managing domain permissions in Squarespace allows you to collaborate with others and share responsibilities for your domain. By inviting contributors, you can enable Coach IQ to connect your domain for you. This comprehensive guide will walk you through the process of managing domain permissions, explaining the different permission levels, and providing step-by-step instructions for common tasks.

If you prefer to connect your domain on your own, follow the instructions in this article to set up the proper DNS settings.

Introduction

Squarespace's domain permission management feature enables you to work with a team to manage your domain effectively. After registering your Squarespace domain, you can invite collaborators who will have their own Squarespace accounts. Upon accepting the invitation, they can either create a new account for free or add the domain to their existing account.

To allow Coach IQ to connect your domain for you, please add liz@coachiq.io as a domain manager.

Note: Domain permissions are only applicable to domains that do not share billing and contributor information with a Squarespace website. When you move a domain to a Squarespace site, all domain contributors are automatically removed, and the domain inherits the website's contributor permissions.

Domain Permission Levels

Squarespace offers two main permission levels for domain management:

  1. Domain Owner: Has full control over the domain, including managing settings, updating billing information, and adding or removing contributors.

  2. Domain Manager: Can manage domain settings and DNS, add or remove contributors, and connect the domain to a website, but cannot access billing or delete the domain.

Note: Domain managers with billing access have the same permissions as domain owners, but it is not possible to add new domain managers with billing access or upgrade existing domain managers to this level.

How to Invite a Contributor

To invite someone to contribute to your domain, follow these steps:

  1. Click on your domain.

  2. Click on Permissions.

  3. Click on Invite domain manager.

  4. Enter the contributor's name and email address (e.g., liz@coachiq.io for CoachIQ).

The contributor will receive an email invitation to log into their existing Squarespace account or create a new one.

Tip: If the option to invite a domain manager is not available, your domain likely shares its permission settings with an associated website. In this case, you can add the contributor as an Administrator to the website instead.

Accepting a Contributor Invitation

When you receive a contributor invitation email with the subject line "Domain Manager Invitation from [inviter name]," follow these steps:

  1. Open the email and click on Accept invitation.

  2. If you have a Squarespace account, log in using your email address and password or a connected social account.

  3. If you don't have an account, click on Create account and choose your login method (email and password or a social account).

Troubleshooting: If you encounter an error message stating that your account email doesn't match the invite email, try accepting the invitation in an incognito or private browsing window to log into the correct account.

Removing Contributors or Yourself from a Domain

To remove a contributor or yourself from a domain:

  1. Click on your domain.

  2. Click on Permissions.

  3. Click on the three dots (...) next to the contributor's name or your own name.

  5. If removing yourself, click Remove again to confirm.
